The Furnace Equipment Operator plays a critical role in maintaining, operating, and coordinating furnace systems and melt operations. This position is responsible for executing hands-on furnace duties, maintaining clean and safe work areas, ensuring product quality and proper sow management, and maintaining accurate production documentation to support efficient workflow between furnace and casting activities.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Skim sows to support safe and efficient furnace operations; assist with skimming process as required.
  2. Ensure team is working with the proper specifications and guidelines for each batch of sows; inspecting sows for quality, rebleeds, over pours, and bad skims.
  3. Weigh sows accurately & provides documentation to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  4. Neatly stack and store sows in the designated storage area for each respective furnace.
  5. Conduct trough maintenance by raking and cleaning the trough to ensure it is prepared for the next pour.
  6. Support baghouse maintenance by maintaining proper lime levels in the lime injection system and monitoring dust bags beneath the auger conveyor.
  7. Prepare molds using sow release agent to ensure readiness for production.
  8. Contribute to a respectful and collaborative team environment through professional conduct and positive communication.
  9. Inspect equipment and work areas to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  10. Perform routine housekeeping duties, including sweeping floors and removing debris, to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  11. Support preventative maintenance activities and minor equipment adjustments as directed.
  12. Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures when required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade training preferred.
  2. Strong mechanical aptitude with comfort working around industrial equipment.
  3. 1+ years’ experience running forklifts, small mobile equipment, skid steers, and/or metal experience preferred.
  4. Basic computer proficiency preferred.
  5. Experience working around heavy equipment and industrial processes preferred.
  6. Strong attention to detail with the ability to enforce quality and safety standards consistently.
Working Conditions:
  1. Work in a physically demanding, high-heat, deadline-driven, and production-focused setting.
  2. Working is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, heat, dust, materials from operational area, molten metal, and extreme temperature variations.
  3. Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. Climbing stairs and working at varying heights as required.
  4. See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity; kneel, sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, pull, push and other similar, repetitive tasks requiring physical activity.  
  5. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
  6. Willing and able to work overtime when needed.
