Wind and Solar Resource Assessment Intern – Renewable Energy
Exus is a next-generation Independent Power Producer that develops, owns, and operates renewable energy assets (Wind, Solar and Battery Storage) while providing world class asset management services for over 5 GW of renewable energy assets to third parties.  Exus has a proven track record of constructing and commercializing renewable energy assets and they are building their portfolio by acquiring and building utility-scale renewables projects and guiding those still in development through to full operational status. As part of Exus’ asset management business, the firm undertakes full technical and commercial management of renewable energy portfolios worldwide. Exus draws on its wide-ranging expertise to optimize technical performance, reduce financial risk, and ensure long-term revenue certainty for their own and their clients’ renewable energy assets.

The Exus Development department is seeking a Wind and Solar Resource Assessment (RA) Intern for our Summer 2025 intern program out of our Corporate HQ Pittsburgh, PA office. This is a paid full-time position. Anticipated duration will be approximately 8 weeks from June to August 2025. Duration, start and end dates are flexible to each candidate’s school schedule.  The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the VP of Technical Development while collaborating with development Project Managers on various RA related projects. 

Internship Overview:
Exus is seeking a Wind and Solar Resource Assessment (RA) Intern to support the development, analysis and modeling of Exus renewable energy projects. You will work with your mentor to define and complete RA related projects specific to company needs and goals. There will be an Intern presentation session at the end of the program where interns will present their work and findings to the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the collection and quality control (QC) of meteorological data from various sources (satellite, ground-based towers/stations and remote sensing devices, etc.)
  • Perform analysis and modeling of wind and solar data for energy production estimates in support role
  • Design and optimize wind turbine and solar PV layouts
  • Support turbine suitability assessment for development or repower wind projects
  • Create internal resource and energy assessment reports and conduct due diligence on third party reports in support role
  • Accompany the Technical Development team on wind or solar micrositing trip(s) for MET towers/stations, turbines, etc.
  • Support requests from other departments (M&A, Commercial, Operations, etc.) as needed
  • Gather, analyze, and compare Exus MET tower data with AWS 90m Wind Resource Grid and other third-party databases
Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate Junior or Senior or Graduate student, currently enrolled and attending an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing or having completed a degree in Atmospheric Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Date Science or related field
  • Willing to work at Exus Corporate HQ office in downtown Pittsburgh, PA for the duration of the program
  • Strong interest in renewable energy development
  • Basic understanding of meteorological principles as they pertain to wind and solar energy
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Google Earth, KMZs, and Shapefiles
  • Basic understanding or willingness to learn other GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.)
  • Ability to walk in rugged terrain and various climate conditions (for site visits)
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
