Program Manager

Compass Business Solutions is working with The Women and Girls Foundation (WGF), a 501c3 non-profit based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  We are looking for a passionate, versatile, and enthusiastic individual to join the team in the role of Program Manager.  The mission of the Women and Girls Foundation is to achieve equality for women and girls, now and for generations to come. WGF pursues this mission by breaking down barriers so that every girl can rise and every woman can soar.

The Program Manager will perform a wide range of duties focused on empowering  high school girls (GirlGov). GirlGov was created by teen women for teen women, and is designed to provide local girls with the opportunity to learn, first hand, about civics, government, philanthropy, community involvement, women’s history, and leadership.  

The program is open to all girls entering 9th to 12th grade who live in Southwest Pennsylvania.  The current class of 100 diverse girls representing 42 different schools meets monthly and participates in an annual, multiple-day trip to Harrisburg.  This position will manage all planning and implementation aspects of this complex and dynamic year-round program.

The ideal candidate will be committed to understanding race, class, gender, and other equity issues as a part of this work, as well as the impact these issues have on our collective work for gender equity.  We seek a candidate who has a strong belief in, and commitment to, progressive social, racial, and economic justice, who has a deep connection to and/or lived experiences in targeted communities.  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures is a must.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ·         Manage all aspects of GirGov: a year-round leadership development program for high schools girls.
  • ·         Refine and implement current programmatic curriculum related to year-round monthly meetings and the full curriculum and agenda related to the four day educational trip to Harrisburg.
  • ·         Work closely with the GirlGov leadership council (a sub-set of leaders from the larger group).
  • ·         Plan and implement all logistics related to monthly meetings and annual GirlGov Harrisburg trip, and any other out-of-town trips related to this program.
  • ·         Recruit/train chaperones and volunteers for monthly meetings and overnight trips, as needed.
  • ·         Develop and deliver workshops, social outings, and other activities for GirlGov participants throughout the year; ensure that all participants (teens, parents, partners, etc.) are fully informed of event particulars.
  • ·         Maintain regular communication with teens and their parents/guardians to increase participation and retention in the program.
  • ·         Oversee participant and legislator recruitment, selection, training, matching, support, supervision, recognition, and closure activities to ensure that all participants (teens, legislators, and guests) have an enriching GirlGov experience.

REQUIREMENTS

·      Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years’ experience working in civic engagement and/or youth programs.

  • ·      MSW and/or Teachers Certification preferred
  • ·      Proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor/member management systems, and online and website communications tools and strategies.
  • ·      Full security clearances as required by law when working with minors
  • ·      Verbal/written fluency in Spanish is a plus.
