Job Summary: 
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our team and support financial operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. The Accountant will be responsible for managing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and variance analysis. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to ensure accurate financial records and reporting.

Note: This is an onsite role at the Energy Innovation Center Institute, located at 1435 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15219.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily accounting activities to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies.
  • Prepare and manage journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned accounts as part of the general ledger month-end close process.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Develop appropriate documentation and figures for financial statements as needed.
  • Analyze monthly results compared to budget, prior month and prior year and explain variances within the assigned accounts.
  • Analyze financial data and identify trends and anomalies, preparing variance analysis reports for assigned accounts.
  • Provide supporting documentation for audit requests.
  • Responsible for working with auditors for annual audit and tax returns, preparing any required documentation.
  • Prepare and submit accurate quarterly reports to funders, detailing the progress, timelines, spend vs. budget, and outcomes of funded projects
  • Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, timesheets, invoices, and payments, ensuring funds are used appropriately and in accordance with grant guidelines.
  • Oversee the administration of awarded grants, ensuring compliance with all funding requirements and regulations.
  • Assist with other reporting and compliance tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience required; experience in non-profit industry preferred.
  • Solid technical knowledge of US GAAP, credit/debit, cash reconciliation, balance sheet, fixed assets, and monthly end close process.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating multiple accounts & projects, and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience and associated software proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
