Job Purpose:
The Events and Marketing Coordinator will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and engagement of the PLSA community. This position will focus on planning and executing a diverse range of events, managing marketing initiatives, and fostering strong community relationships. The ideal candidate for this position is a highly motivated and organized individual with a passion for the life sciences industry and should possess strong communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
Principal (Essential) Duties:
Events Planning and Execution
- Develop and execute a comprehensive event calendar, including conferences, seminars, workshops, networking events, and social gatherings for PLSA community members.
- Organize and manage all aspects of event planning, including venue and vendor selection (catering, photography, etc.), speaker recruitment, budget management, registration, and logistics.
- Coordinate with vendors, speakers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless event execution.
- Oversee event marketing and promotion, including creating promotional materials, managing social media campaigns, and coordinating email marketing.
- Develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote PLSA’s programming and increase awareness and engagement within the life sciences community.
- Create compelling marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, presentations, and social media content.
- Develop, curate and manage engaging content for PLSA’s social media, newsletter, and website.
- Initiate, develop, and maintain local and state media and public contacts for disseminating program information.
- Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new branding and marketings ideas and initiatives.
- Track and analyze marketing metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven decisions.
- Actively engage with community members, in collaboration with the Community Manger, through regular communications that promote PLSA events, communicates its story, and advances the life sciences industry.
- Collect and analyze member feedback to improve the value and impact of PLSA's events and programs.
- Manage the annual marketing and events budget, and track expenses to ensure budget adherence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of event planning best practices, from budgeting and logistics to vendor management and guest experience.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms.
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with community members, stakeholders, vendors, and the public at all levels.
- Ability to develop innovative marketing campaigns and event experiences.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems effectively.
- Strong relationship-building skills with colleagues, community members and vendors.
- Meticulous attention to detail for accuracy in event planning and marketing.

Experience / Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in event planning, marketing, or related field preferably within the life sciences.
- Proven track record of successfully planning and executing events of varying sizes and complexities.
- Experience in developing and implementing marketing campaigns
- Proficiency in using marketing automation tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands:
- Travel up to 25% to sites beyond the Pittsburgh area.
- Perform light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to see, hear, talk and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity; sit, stand, walk and other similar tasks requiring physical activity.
- Ability to operate standard office/computer equipment.
